• LLC Update
o Kit-tastic is the word that was used this year.
 Kit and the Sheriff think we did a good job.
 The LLC had dinner with Kit last Wednesday. He loves us.
• We have a good organization.
• He had no idea that leave no trace could actually exist.
o Last year’s conversation was a perfect storm.
 This year’s flipside went really really well. It could not have gone better.
 We had bad things happen.
• We had external calls.
• The landowner stayed up till 5 AM on burn night freaking out.
 We did a lot of contract planning this year. We signed a contract in January.
• Previous years we sometimes signed a contract up till the day of the event.
• Policies:
o Minor policies
o Sound policies
o When we had to talk to law enforcement and land owner these policies helped us out.
• Stuff in trees – kind of a surprise, but it worked out
• Kit had no insurance for that land, but we took care of it and he is happy.
 In the past we have gone to our insurance agent and they give us insurance.
• This year we had DaFT on land a week early and we needed more insurance due to the land owner lacking insurance.
• We were very close to not getting insurance.
• The underwriters went to our website and saw “Post Apocalyptic Prom”, biohazard symbols, etc. They kinda freaked out.
• We had to operate from Saturday till Tuesday under our general liability insurance.
• The list of people there had to accurate due to this issue.
• We didn’t know what the policy was until 3 days before the event.
• We had to convince the insurance that the event includes cleanup.
 Sheriff likes us. Our interactions with the deputies were flawless.
• They were respectful.
• They were happy to take our money.
• They actually chased people down to help them.
• Ghost meets a deputy and his wife on Saturday night to take them on a tour. They loved it and asked about tickets.
• The sheriff’s office seems very willing to work with us.
• “It wasn’t just the boobies”
 We treated a bunch of people onsite
• People don’t realize how hot it is
• People get sick
• Gwen did a fantastic job recruiting clinic and emergency PETs.
 Site Prep
• Kit loves everybody that came out to this land for the event.
• Thanks to Sodium, Reese, Face, and all the people that stayed for GTFO. It is much much appreciated.
 Sound
• Questions concerns and worries about sound.
• There were no complaints about sound this year.
• Kit stopped every few miles to check for sound one night, but he couldn’t hear sound past the house.
• Huge kudos to Whatamelon, Cherubick, and Sunkyst
 Impression of our event/organization
• Leave No Trace – What it meant to Kit – It meant that they say they’re going to clean up. He needs to hire crews to clean up after them.
• “Thank you for doing what you said you’re going to do” – Kit
• We did for Miliam county what we said we were going to do for Miliam county.
• Kit, the Sheriff, and the county judge are cool with us going for mass gathering.
• We’re going to talk about media and personal use agreements.
 Burn Night
• Everything the happened at burn night goes back to planning and site prep.
• “I have 2500 people on my land who are so fucking happy they might explode” – Kit
• There was only one ambulance and one deputy on staff that weekend.
• Burn night silliness started at about 8:30 with crazy naked guy.
• We had local gate crashers at about 1 am, a seizure about 1 am, and crazy naked guy returned at 1 am.
• We had one sheriff/ambulance call at about 11 pm.
• We had a great burn night.
• Wristbands worked out very well.
• He recognized the spiritual/tribal nature of the fire and the dancing around the fire.
 Legit Art
• There have been some discussions on list about an article in a blog. The participant’s content manger liked the article and posted it across several different categories.
• This person’s personal blog entry was taken from their personal space and moved to a commercial space.
• The content manager did not take it down at the participant’s request.
• The LLC had to react. The interactions and photographs were protected like they need to be.
• Flipside Wrapup
o Tabled till the next meeting
• Leads Appreciation
o We don’t have a date yet. We are looking at two dates in July or possibly after Burning Man. Maybe the third weekend of Spetember.
o It will be some form of a campout. Leads and SOs on Friday with a Brunch. Afterwards the event would be open to volunteers by invite only.
o September is a good idea for the kinda of kickoff of the event season.
o We should try to set the date for the 2011 version before Flipside ’11.
• Townhall Date
o There has been talk about pushing things up for various reasons.
o Possibly October 16th.
o Possibly having a summer townhall to discuss some things with the community.
 The community needs another opportunity to communicate with each other.
o If we have a fall townhall so late, it makes ticket and sticker design and sales more difficult. Having October 16th would give us time to have a summer town hall in July.
o Sunday after town hall would be a time to bring out their art and possibly sell their art.
o We don’t want to blur the line and allow sales at townhall. You can sell things the day after, but not at townhall.
o Maybe consider pulling in a theme camp meet and greet on Sunday as well.
o Maybe use EAST weekend for townhall
o Setup a Burner Business Board during the Burner Bizarre after townhall.
o Possibly October 2nd for townhall. This would bump it up a month.
o What about the last weekend in September?
o This shouldn’t be engraved in stone at this point. We need to allow for some change.
o Change is bad. Let’s keep it on November 6th.
o The consensus is that the date with tentatively be October 16th based on Angilique’s and the Event Coordinators availability.
o Do we need to have new CC members by town hall or is it just a nice to have?
 It is important to publically acknowledge people standing up to take on things.
o Treat the fall town hall as a “recompression.” Something to put energy into such as townhall itself, and the “Burner bizarre”
o No market place on the Sabbath!
o Beth to work with Angelique to verify that October 16th works for her.
• Preliminary Event Date/Burn Night
o Lakes of Fire has their burn on Saturday.
o Why don’t we burn on Saturday, because people are burnt out on Monday when it is time to leave?
o We have the big intense night and you have to wake up the next morning and leave.
o We’ve had a tradition, and each of the days that lead up to it is important.
o If we move it to a non-3 day weekend we’d have to burn on Saturday.
o Only support moving the burn day up if the gate opens Wednesday.
o Moving the event off Memorial Day is a problem with people having time off.
o If we have the burn on Saturday what is Sunday for?
o What are the burn bans like in April vs. May?
o Major concerns with having worked DaFT and never finishing the Effigy before Friday or Saturday.
o These need to be discussed with a large cross section of the community. Maybe at Summer town hall?
o Without major game changing evidence consensus would be blocked on moving the event date.
o Are these events non-starters? No.
o Action item: We need to schedule these topics for later discussion. We need feedback by the August 2nd Meeting.
o How many heat exhaustion cases did we get over the past 10 years? Flipside and Memorial day aren’t related. Why can’t we have it at a time of the year when it is more pleasant?
o Having some time with the Effigy is important for establishing a connection with the Effigy before it is burned.
o Moving this away from a 3 day weekend. Really puts pressure on the volunteers. We are really stretching the people thin. Especially Post Op.
o We shouldn’t move the Flipside date until at Flipside.
o We shouldn’t move the event date and pass mass gathering in the same year.
• Appreciations:
o Burning Man points out people who worked really hard.
o The non-CC members who showed up tonight, we really appreciate you.
 Bean, Amy Bunker, Buzzkill, Flamey, and Udo
o The LLC would like to appreciate the CC for everything it does.
