Clean Up Volunteering

2012 Update: Okay, friends and neighbors! It's that time of year again. Time to sign up for the Clean Up! (kisses and hugs) TCL

Short Version: Clean up is looking for participants to return the land to its original pristine state. We generally work on the burn scar Monday and Tuesday and conduct MOOP Sweeps Tuesday and the following Saturday.

Clean up also works with the Earth Guardians, Exodus and Post Ops volunteering groups all under the Site Sign-Off umbrella.

Long Version: Like to get DIRTY? Come one, come all and volunteer for the Flipside 2012 Freaky Deaky Post-Ops Clean-Up Crew. You’ll be cleaning up after we burn the effigy to the ground. Your work will be the very first thing the Landowner sees after we leave. This work is not only honorable; it is crucial to the goodwill we must maintain so that we can keep partying in this fantastically beautiful location among the pecan trees.

The major incentive for you is that you get to stay later to party longer than the rest of the unfortunate people who must return to the default reality on Monday. On Monday, everyone meets up at the effigy remains to pick up all the metal and bits of unburned wood that are left over, and rake and shovel up the ashes. On Tuesday, some will do preliminary land sweeps of the Theme Camp areas, The Badlands, and Parking to pick up MOOP and in general, ensure the land is returned to a state as good if not better than when we found it. The rest continues work at the burn-scar, swapping out crews between the two tasks so as not to overwork anyone. Bring your gloves and a water bottle or cup. We will provide rakes, shovels, hoes, and other equipment. We will also have cold water and shade to take mandatory breaks. It’s hot. It’s dirty. It’s hard. And it’s well worth the effort.

On Tuesday morning, some of you will do preliminary land sweeps of all the theme camp areas and The Badlands and Parking. You’ll pick up MOOP and in general, ensure the land is returned to a state as good if not better than when we found it. You’ll meet up at Recycling HQ. Part way through, you’ll relieve some of the folks slaving away over in the effigy ashes. (Yep. I’m keeping it fair.) Later, more will swap out, until we’re done for the day. You’ll wrap up the day at the effigy, making the ground nice and smooth and pretty for planting the following Saturday. You get to stay until 5pm, a full day AFTER the poor beleaguered plebeians leave.

There will be shade provided at the effigy along with a few chairs. Bring your own chair to ensure that YOU have one when you take a break. There will also be plenty of chilled water provided for mandatory water/shade breaks every 5-15 minutes, depending on the heat and weather conditions. We will have Breakfast Tacos on one of the mornings. This is being done in partnership with the Earth Guardians. (Hip-hip-hooray!) There will also be a dinner provided on the following Saturday night at the final Clean-Up Day. The Cat Lady is cooking. Everyone who volunteers gets to vote on “What’s For Dinner?” Finally, yes, wait for it … There will be cool SWAG for you for all your hard work and effort!!!

Sound like a blast? Wanna join the Clean-Up Crew? Sign up today! Thanks!!
