Combustion Chamber

What is the Combustion Chamber?

The Combustion Chamber (CC) is a group of people that provide feedback and direction from the general Burning Flipside community to the Burning Flipside organization. While final decisions on policy and direction lie with the LLC, the CC in general is the group that will propose those policies and direction.

Structure

The CC is a community-nominated, self-selecting group that adds members on occasion to keep its numbers near 10-15, not including Area Facilitators. This process is detailed in the Adding a CC Member process document.

Responsibilities of Members

CC Members discuss policies and the direction of Flipside at a very high level, and is generally where major (and minor) changes are discussed. The CC is not always or even usually the group that executes the decisions recommended by it, often it is Leads, Volunteers, Area Facilitators, etc. who will actually implement what was decided. In general, the CC does not manage a task, that is generally done by Leads, an Area Facilitators, the LLC, or a volunteer. To aid in communication and understanding of discussions during the Flipside operational season, Area Facilitators are invited to come to CC meetings as a defacto member. Additionally, the members of the LLC attend CC Meetings as well.

Terms of Commitment

Members of the CC are expected to serve for at least one year, and it is hoped that they will serve as long as they are an effective conduit from the community to the organization. Standard Volunteer Disclaimer.

  • Participate in Meetings, as often as weekly, 2-3 hours

History

The Combustion Chamber (CC) was originally formed by the LLC for the purpose of improving the communication to the greater Flipside community from the LLC and organization. It was also seen as a way to allow more people to directly affect the way that the Burning Flipside event matured. The original group was chosen for its' known ability to work well with others, and for past contributions to Flipside's growth.
