DaFT/Volunteer
About DaFT
Design and Fabrication Team. Responsible for the creation and construction of the effigy, the buzzing hubub in the center of Pyropolis.
Gathering at our hideout, through teamwork, hard work and dedication we brainstorm, collaborate, measure, saw, drill, lift, sweat and do whatever it takes to get the effigy erected. A few of us are veterans, and a few are (very) welcome newbies. We work hard, we love it, and we make it fun.
What Can I Hope to Gain from Helping?
Wow. That's a loaded question. What can you NOT gain from helping? That's how I feel. With everything that comes along with building the effigy, through it all comes new knowledge, skills, and bonds. What does the effigy mean to you? What do you want to put into it? What do you want to get out of it? I mean, it's building the friggin' effigy. Volunteering creates a bond with the event, and the effigy is a freakin icon each year.
Organizational Structure
This year's plan is based around independent teams, each with 'lead' positions who can teach new comers about project. Each lead is responsible for a certain aspect or mechanism of the design. There are separate leads for the derricks, dancers, decking, lighting, pyro, etc. We have a solid working organization already, but we have room for more!
How do I Join?
Joining DaFT can be done in three simple steps (well, four):
1. Come to Church Night.
2. Identify a DaFT Leader.
3. Tell us you want to help.
4. Join the google group and sign up for stuff!
Your level of involvement is entirely up to you. You can come in and work for a night, or you can dedicate every hour of the next few months to it (it happens).
