Greeters Cheat Sheet
From Pyropopedia
Questions!
Ask these questions to everyone you greet, especially newbies! Every participant must understand these simple guidelines before entering. Please leave these sheets for the next shift of Greeters. There are [Survival Guides] for people to take if they don’t know the answers. Thank you!
1 ) Have you read your Survival Guide?
Yes! If not, give them a survival guide to read through then quiz them.
2 ) Have you brought any children or pets?
If they brought children, make sure they know that THEY are responsible for their children 100% of the time and what their children are exposed to. No one is expected to censor their
behavior if a child is present. NO ANIMALS ALLOWED. Service animals excepted.
3 ) How much water did you bring?
2 gallons per person per day.
4 ) Do you have enough food and supplies for this event?
Yes! If not, politely tell them to turn around and get enough food and supplies for the weekend.
5 ) Do you have any firearms, fireworks, or weapons of mass destruction?
No, no, and no. These items are not allowed at Flipside.
6 ) Does your camp, art project, art car, or anything else make sound?
a. If yes, did you register a “sound sponsor” and did they sign a waiver form?
If they have not, radio for the Sound Lead or for a Ranger.
b. Do you understand the Sound Policy and do you know what “Deafcon 10” is?
All of Flipside will have 10 minutes to cut their subs or turn down their music. We want to ensure that our neighbors maintain a good impression of our community.
7 ) Do you have anything to sell?
Hell no. ‘round these parts we gift everything… even bartering is discouraged.
8 )Are you planning on taking pictures or video this weekend?
a. If so, is your camera or video camera for personal or commercial use?
If personal, let them know they must AT ALL TIMES ask permission before taking someone’s picture. If commercial, proceed to question c.
**IMPORTANT: all persons with video cameras must sign a Personal Use Agreement and
check in with the Media Liason. Persons arriving at night need to check in with the Rangers.
c. Are you a commercial photographer or with a media outlet? (e.g. newspapers, commercial websites, tv shows, newscasts, etc)?
Ask them if they have a Media Pass from the Media Liaison. If they don’t, send them to the Media Table at the Help Desk to fill out a form with their info and talk to the Liason. Persons arriving at night need to check in with the Rangers.
9 ) a. What is MOOP and how will your camp deal with it?
Matter Out of Place. It includes: cans, refuse, cigarette butts, plastic rings, bits of twine, glitter, anything that is on the ground that does not naturally grow there. Before leaving the event, all camps must walk their site and pick up all the MOOP. Leave No Trace!
b. Where do your full trash bags go after the event?
Pack it in, pack it out! Take them back to your home trash cans. And Please Recycle!
10 ) What do you do if you have a disagreement with someone?
Resolve it in a peaceful manner, utilize your friends as mediators. If no mutual agreement can be found, find a Ranger – those peeps in the snazzy khaki.
11 ) If you smoke, do you have a tin to carry with you to put your butts in?
If yes, congratulate them. If not, give them a tin or send them to the Earth Guardians.
12) If you brought a mutant vehicle, should you or anyone else drive this car intoxicated?
NO! People at Flipside can still get DUIs and DWIs. It is far too easy to seriously injury or kill someone with a vehicle on this land. Please don’t leave your mutant vehicle unattended. You will be held responsible for any damages caused by someone else driving your vehicle. Speed limit anywhere at FS is 5mph.
13 ) What is the Towing Policy?
If you are in an area that is not marked for car camping and is not a parking lot, then you will be towed. You will have ample time to move your car before this happens and the Towing crew will do their best to notify you. Refer to the Towing Policy in the binder if they have questions.
14 ) What are some signs of dehydration?
If you experience irritation, snappiness, or are in an unexplainable bad mood, get somewhere cool and drink water slowly. If you experience dizziness, fever, fainting - seek medical attention from the PETs. The PETs are located in the Grove and wear maroon.
15 ) What does “no” mean?
No, stop, red light, thumbs down, you shall not pass! Everyone is responsible for asking when something is okay with another, and for setting their own boundaries.
16 ) Who is responsible for your experience at this event?
Each person is responsible for their own experience.
17 ) How are you participating??
Just about any answer is good for this one.
Important Things To Remember:
If you get lost, find a ranger. If you get lost at night, follow lights, find a ranger.
Poison Ivy - It's there. It's ninja. Leaves of three, let it be. Check the trees. Watch out for hairy vines and remember that the resin from poison ivy stays active on surfaces for up to 5 years. We should have examples at the greeter station to show people.
Wildlife! - Rattlers and Water Moccasin Snakes have been spotted on the land. Rattlers will probably shy away from crowds, but Water Moccasins are braver and could pose a real threat, especially downstream from the main swim hole. If you see one, get away immediately and notify a ranger.
Trees! – Apache pastures is a working Pecan grove. We need to respect the trees. Do not deface them in any way, including screwing things into them, or attaching or suspending things from the branches. Pecan trees drop their branches very easily, and we would hate for you to head to the PETS with a branch through your noggins.
River - There is NO camping down at the river or on the island. The river is controlled by a dam, and can flood super fast if they open the gates. Don't swim alone. The river current can be very swift and can overwhelm you quickly. Don't swim at night, you can potentially die of hypothermia.
Boundaries - Heed all event boundary markers and street signs! This includes caution tape (cliffs!), red rope light, orange safety fence, and NO TRESPASSING signs. Stay within fencing and on our side of the river. For your safety, DO NOT PASS THE BOUNDARIES! DO NOT REMOVE THEM OR STREET SIGNS!
Spots of interest - (show them on the map): Parking, ICE, Pyropolis Volunteer Conscription (Help Desk), The Grove: Rangers & Pets, Beaches.
GTFO! – We love to have you for the weekend, but we eventually want to leave. Everyone needs to be gone by 5:30pm Monday afternoon. That doesn’t mean start packing at 5:29pm, that means packed up, MOOPed and gone.
