The Pyroforming (or "fire-forming") of a large acreage site which has the potential for supporting the city of Pyropolis is the process of deliberately modifying its surface (topography), and its ecology (flora) to make it possible to support humans, Burners, sparkle ponies, large and small art installations, art cars, emergency and other vehicles.

On the surface, roads and walking paths are built, camp sites are cleared of brush while shade trees are encouraged by careful pruning and brush clearing.

The flora are identified and cleared to make way for thousands of Flipizens. Poison Ivy, cactus of all kinds, and thorny scrub brush are removed where necessary, and left intact and untouched when not.

The Site Prep area does most of the work pre-event in the Spring over the course of several work-weekends in close association with City Planning, PrePost, Safety and other volunteer departments.
