Description
Area: Safety
Sanctuary provides a quiet retreat for those who find themselves mentally and/or emotionally overwhelmed by the Flipside experience. The Sanctuary Lead is a liability lead that is responsible for organizing the sanctuary space at Flipside as well as recruiting, orienting, and scheduling qualified volunteers to provide mental health support during the event. The sanctuary lead should preferably have a background in counseling and/or psychotherapy and should possess excellent psychosocial assessment skills.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Volunteers will be asked to work a 6 hour shift or 2 throughout the event. Each volunteer shift will have around 3 people on shift as well as one TREE. A TREE is a shift lead who will be required to work 12 hours per shift for overlap reasons.
Volunteers may be asked to use a radio or comm during their shift to be in touch with their TREE, PETs and or Rangers should a situation arise. This will be covered in training.
Each volunteer will be required to attend a training session prior to Flipside. This session can be done at Safetycide, March 23rd-25th at Apache Pass, an online class and in some special cases onsite. Please do not expect to train onsite unless you have made special arrangements with the Sanctuary Lead.
Volunteers are expected to keep the Sanctuary environment calm, and as low traffic as possible. This means preventing it from being a hangout for those who are not in need of Sanctuary. Imagine if you were having a difficult time, you'd likely not want to be in the middle of a theme camp.
Volunteers will also be required to keep logs of cases that occur during their shift.
