Safetyside is an intensive weekend-long training conference for Burning Flipside’s Safety volunteers: Rangers, PETs, Pyropolis Fire Dept., Sanctuary, Sound Marshals, Guardians, and Echelon.
Safetyside activities include:
- departmental trainings that satisfy annual proficiency requirements
- elective sessions where Safety volunteers can expand their knowledge of basic and advanced Safety operations
- discussion groups based on community Safety topics
- cross-training opportunities
- Incident Command System training
While the conference is primarily focused to provide training to Flipside Safety volunteers, its doors are open to any Safety participant who invests their time at any Burn event. Safetyside’s reach extends far beyond Flipside to other sister burns within Texas and to other events throughout the country.
Safetyside is an investment in our community – specifically, it is an investment in our Safety volunteers. We expect that everyone attending Safetyside will likewise invest some of their time actively volunteering with a Safety department this year. One of the most valuable assets to the sustainability of our burn events are our volunteer Safety teams. They ensure that our events function smoothly and safely in line with our community’s principles and county, state, and federal laws.
