BurninGlam wants your bright, crazy, glittery, lacy, silly, flowy, sexy, boldly patterned, bizarre fun clothes!

We want your weird hats, tights, gloves, bras, wigs, accessories and props!

We want them clean!

We want them non-mooping!

We do not want your bland, dirty, trashed, stinky or boring.

We do not want cargo shorts, logos of any kind, polo shirts, dockers or button downs, or anything you wear in the default world…unless you are a full-time weirdo, in which case come help us dress peeps up!

(Why do I even have to say this?!? We don’t, seriously don’t, want these things. Just don’t.)

Get Yourself on Island Time

Not to be missed, The Island is only across the bridge or down the river path, but occupies a parallel universe.

Hosting a gallery of Flipizen’s art, shady spots, and cool(er) breezes off the river, The Island is worth repeat visits to discover the scope of the Art and the variety of experiences they offer.

Come check it out, and find a chill spot, out of the swirl of Flipside.  And, if the Art gets you all worked up, one of our favorite beaches is just down the path! It’s a win, win!

Have you ever been volunteering, and had the realization that sometimes it’s hard? It’s hot and you’re thirsty, or half of the team hasn’t shown up, or you really need to get a vat of salty limeade over to the Dafties stat and they’re way on the other side of the city? Well, fear not! The Volunteer Assistance Squad exists to help make your volunteer experience even more awesome than making Flipside go already is! Want to learn more? Check out this post.

Ticket Lead Update

The ticket window is closed and we do not anticipate selling any more tickets. Never fear though! Since we were able to fulfill all viable requests this year, tickets should be easily obtainable. Learn about how to find your Flipside tickets here.

Sweet and Innocent City Planners Need Help

Emily our devoted City Signage lead slaves away, crying at her solitude, Sundays at Lloyd the Warehouse to make city signs. Won’t someone come and help her?

Molly, our fresh recruit the Flagging lead role, is wondering if anyone will help her as well. Help the poor dear out!

And don’t forget Bonnie, your Theme Camp Liaison. She always wants to hear from theme camps when things change so we can try to accommodate them while we still can. After a while it gets harder to do that, and that makes us so sad.

A Note for Parents

If you’re planning on bringing a kid to Flipside, you have some extra responsibilities. You need to bring documentation to verify that you are the parent or legal guardian of the minor in your care. Check out the list of documentation on this post here.

Community Safety Issue: Help us find and fix our missing stairs

There was an influential essay titled The Missing Stair written in 2012. If you haven’t read it, it’s one page long and worth a look.

The author likens the missing stair to a known predator within any community (social, work, religious, club, etc.). Everyone knows about the problem with the staircase, so new community Members are informed / warned. “Oh yeah, I almost forgot to tell you, there’s a missing step on the unlit staircase with no railings. But it’s okay because we all just remember to jump over it.”

This is obviously not a good way of dealing with a problem, even in a small community, but it’s completely unworkable when applied to the Texas Burn Communities, including Flipside’s Community.

Sometimes it can seem like Mother Nature has it in for us at Burning Flipside—floods, falling trees, and fire ants. There’s only so much we can do about that. But when it comes to problematic interpersonal interactions, we have some options. Learn about how to handle incidents and make our community a safer place here.

Echelon is Still Looking for Volunteers

Echelon is still looking for volunteers to support our Safety Teams as well as the Flipside community. It’s a pretty sweet shift. You’ll meet a ton of awesome volunteers as we check radios in and out to our Safety Teams. You’ll also meet and help fellow participants (and possibly make someone’s day) by keeping track of lost and found items at the event. InterZone Coordinator

Zone Czars Needed! Czars are stationed at the beginning of each zone and they help place the first theme campers into their proper place. It is a low stress way to meet and bond with fellow Flipizens. It’s perfect for newer burners as well as seasoned ones. Interested? Learn more here.

Barbie Goes to Flipside, the Screenplay

All vehicles (golf cart, modified lawn mower, Fisher-Price Jeeps, etc.) must meet Mutant Standards to be licensed for usage at Flipside! Register your art car before the event, and we’ll let you know if your ideas are Mutant Vehicle worthy, before you spend your time, money, effort, etc. If it’s not 100% human powered, register it. Flipside 2018: All RVs

Due to the massive influx, let’s get some RV discussion started! From a City Planning perspective, we have included your RV in your placement, but placement is based on moderately firm or better ground conditions. If ground conditions get squishy in the weeks leading up to the event, we will let folks know the impact of ground conditions. Want to know more about RV placement? Read more here.

You think you have tickets? Make sure by logging onto https://secure.burningflipside.com!

If your Ticket Request status says “Pending” you may have a problem. Contact me at Tickets@burningflipside.com – I might be able to help.

Now is the time when my first question is: Did you retain your Money Order Receipt? It is a REALLY BIG DEAL when handling problems.

When you log onto https://secure.burningflipside.com, check and see what name is associated with your ticket(s). Make sure your ticket(s) are under your legal name(s) that match your legal documentation.

Example: My tickets are under the name Loribug and Loribug +1 right now. I will not be able to get through gate, unless my drivers license says Loribug and my friends says Loribug+1.

 

Echelon is Still Looking for Volunteers

Hey! I’m Violet, Echelon lead.

Echelon is still looking for volunteers to support our Safety Teams as well as the Flipside community. It’s a pretty sweet shift. You’ll meet a ton of awesome volunteers as we check radios in and out to our Safety Teams. You’ll also meet and help fellow participants (and possibly make someone’s day) by keeping track of lost and found items at the event. All from the comfort and convenience of the air-conditioned trailer at Safety HQ!

We have regular 6-hour shifts running from:

  • 7am to 1pm
  • 1pm to 7pm
  • 7pm to 1am
  • 1am to 7am 

There are also overlap shifts to help cover peak times that coincide with the first hour of shift change for other Safety teams. These one hour shifts are from:

  • 7:45am to 8:45am
  • 1:45pm to 2:45pm
  • 7:45pm to 8:45pm
  • 1:45am to 2:45am

Sign up for at least one of each type to qualify for an Echelon T-shirt.

To sign up, comment on the shift you would like on the Google sheet below with contact info (Name for lam, email and camp). I will confirm and add you to the roster.

DaFT is still looking for community art for the effigy!

2D Art for the Underworld
We are looking for 6-7 pieces of 2D art that we can frame and display in the Underworld. The prompt is: “Favourite thing of someone or something you’ve lost”. Standard frame sizes: 4.5×6.5″, 5×7″, 8×10″, 11×14″.  Swing by the warehouse with your piece or shoot us an email.
 
Metal Art
DaFT is dedicating a courtyard behind the effigy for a metal garden, so we can highlight some of the metal art in the community.  If you have something you’d like to contribute, come talk to us about showcasing it behind the effigy!

Quest Givers & Theme Camps
Last, but certainly not least, DaFT is planning on using a combination of planned events and active quests for participants to discover and collaboratively contribute to. We keep eyes on the outskirts of Pyropolis, making sure hooligans aren’t pulling any shenanigans trying to ruin our good time. Introverted? Sweet! Our shifts are very low key and perfect for recharging and escaping the stimulus that exists within the city. We can definitely offer quietish shifts that typically involve minimal interactions with humans. Wanna mess around with night vision!? We got that covered on our night shifts and this year we have really sweet new gear! Get cool swag like T-shirts! (Ask us how!) More info at our wiki page below:

The Effigy is the centerpiece of Burning Flipside. Beginning in February, countless volunteers meet up several times a week at the warehouse and work tirelessly to make the largest single art piece at the event a reality. There are opportunities well before the event, at the event, and after the event to be a part of something truly magical.

We’re going out of our way to make things AWESOME for everyone who visits parking, and even better than AWESOME for people who work there.

Are you holding an event at Flipside this year?  Your camp is hosting the perfectly Shadow-y Celebration of Light and Dark, but no one knows yet? Burning Green

Burners take great pride in our Leave NO Trace ethos. It aligns with the Burning Flipside principals perfectly in that we all have to participate and cooperate to be accountable to ourselves, our burn and the world as a whole. Having an LNT attitude also helps the sustainability of the event in that landowners are inclined to have us back as we don’t destroy/pollute their property.

Now is the time to consider how you and/or your camp, if you belong to one, can LNT prepare. Remember if you bring it, you take it home! Here are some simple steps you can do to not only make LNT happen but make it easy.
